Can anyone tell me what he says about approaching something sunning itself
in a clearing. What is it ?
d20gdx~ its an animal. how would you approach an animal you didn’t want to
scare or put on guard. approaching the animal without it becoming aware you
are even there. when you are good at what he is suggesting, this becomes
possible. as don Juan explains to Carlos Castaneda, this is the art of
awareness, or finding your assemblage point.
i found that by spending many days alone, in nature, this becomes almost
second nature. it is as if you are a little kid sneaking up on your friend
or sibling in order to frighten them as much as possible. enter that point
of awareness, it is so easy…

Reflecting as the anniversary of my husband’s motorcycle accident
approaches this October. The chill in the NYC air brings it all back like
yesterday. Our lives and the people in it are so different now, for the
better.
After I lost almost all of my hair something needed to change, and that was
me. In January I started meditating mindfully. It has been an incredible
journey.
Here is an intro to Mindful Mediation with Jon Kabat-Zinn that was held at
Google. If you are curious about why meditation is so important for anyone
who suffers chronic health issues, take 15 minutes, watch the beginning and
pass it on.
Hi CantWeedThis: I had the same experience prior to practicing mindfulness
mediattion . The aim is not to replace it with another thought. Knowing it
provides us a breathing space where we can choose what respond is needed in
that situation. There is no need to push it away, the intensity of anger
varies, and when we keep practising this in our sitting, then we get better
slowly. again, treating ourselves with kindness , non judging is crucial.
so … no need to be stupid. Just observe…

Very good talk about mindfulness. The mind controls and disciplines the
body, as we say sometimes in martial arts. Yet, how do we become more
mindful towards others? Not only does the discussion have beneficial
applications for martial artists – especially as far as developing
awareness and so forth – but it also is very useful for anyone looking to
improve their meditation, mindfulness towards others, and so forth.
I have been listening to Full Catastrophe Living this week. It is an
excellent audio book and introduction to mindfulness, which I see as a
compliment to my study of Zen.
Jessica, sooooo totally enlightening! Very pertinent to the subject matter
here and what Mr. Kabat-Zinn is talking about. I hope that you get the girl
that your newphew wants! I am sure that just about every single person that

This is true…and yet it’s not the whole story. I view mindfulness
meditation’s benefits as quite similar to benefits from physical exercise:
when motor learning occurs initially, and then is lost due to detraining,
the relearning of a skill is not as difficult the second time around (this
is true for muscular gains as well). In other words, don’t beat yourself up
too much if you do fall off the wagon–getting back on is a little easier
than the last time:). May you be happy!

Jon Kabat-Zinn, professor of medicine at the UMass Medical School and
developer of Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction, gave this talk at Google
in 2007. It’s well worth watching to get a sense of his health-focused
approach to mindfulness (refreshingly free of mumbo-jumbo).
He leads a gentle practice, starting around 22:55. It’s well worth the time
to follow along somewhere you won’t be disturbed (or feel too
self-conscious).
